April 24 — Within the framework of the fourth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-4), the Women’s Major Group (WMG) carried out an intensive coordination day on April 24, focused on ensuring the successful organization of the lunch for women delegates and strengthening its engagement in official spaces of the global plastics treaty negotiations.
Coordination of the Lunch with Women Delegates
Throughout the day, the WMG dedicated its efforts to the logistical and strategic coordination of the lunch for women delegates attending INC-4, scheduled for April 26. The initiative aims to create a space for dialogue, exchange, and collective reflection among women participating in the negotiations.
Key coordination activities included:
- Meetings with supporting partners
The WMG met with representatives from Hej!support, IPEN, and WECF, who expressed strong interest in supporting the initiative. Strategic partnerships were established, and roles were coordinated to ensure the lunch would be meaningful and impactful.
- Coordination with the catering team
A meeting was held with the catering team at the Shaw Centre to organize a simple yet special lunch. Discussions covered menu planning, venue arrangements, and other logistical considerations to ensure a welcoming and well-organized event.
- Design of multilingual invitations
WMG members collaborated on the design of invitation cards in four languages — Arabic, French, English, and Spanish — ensuring inclusivity and making all delegates feel welcomed and comfortable.
April 24 was dedicated to ensuring that all necessary details were in place for the lunch on April 26. Collaboration with key partners, careful logistical planning, and multilingual preparations helped create a conducive environment for exchange and collaboration among women delegates during this important moment of the INC-4 process.
Women’s Major Group participation in an INC-4 side event
The Women’s Major Group also participated in one of the official INC-4 side events, entitled “Approaches to capacity building, financing and financial mechanisms.”
During this session, Yuyun Ismawa represented the WMG as a speaker, emphasizing the need for a treaty that safeguards human health and advocating for comprehensive coverage of the entire life cycle of plastics, from production to disposal.
The WMG’s participation in this side event reaffirmed its commitment to advancing a strong, inclusive, and rights-based global treaty to end plastic pollution.
