The Women’s Major Group (WMG) is a self-organized global alliance of organizations and individuals committed to environmental justice, gender equality, and sustainable development. It was established following the 1992 Earth Summit and is recognized as the official participation channel for women within the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Through a participatory structure organized at regional and thematic levels, the WMG facilitates the meaningful integration of women’s civil society perspectives into international environmental decision-making processes, promoting policies grounded in human rights, environmental justice, and intersectionality. Through policy advocacy, collective proposal-building, capacity strengthening, and engagement with governments and multilateral organizations, the Women’s Major Group advances inclusive and transformative environmental governance that recognizes women’s leadership as a fundamental pillar for protecting the planet and ensuring a sustainable future for all.
